Intel
has just launched its Grantsdale and Alderwood chipsets series
for Pentium 4 processors to succeed the current generation 865/875
series. For
Intel, the mainstream 915P/915G (Grantsdale)
and performance targeted
925x (Alderwood) series chipsets mark many new significant technology
conversions.
The
new chipsets offer support for DDR2 memory and include support
for advanced SATA RAID, Intel's High-Definition Audio technology, PCI-Express, and
PCI-Express Graphics (x16) PCI-Express
x16 sets the standard for video performance with dedicated read/write
bandwidth, allowing 4GB/sec bandwidth one way and 8GB/sec bandwidth in
bidirectional mode. All chipsets are optimized for Pentium 4
Hyperthreading technology and in the future some will support a faster
1066 FSB speed (not yet available). The Intel 915G series will feature
integrated graphics (known as Graphics Media Accelerator 900).
With
so many new technologies packed into these chipsets it offers a great
platform for future growth, higher performance, and acceptance of new
standards.
Time
to upgrade again!
