Prescott CPU Info
Prescott is the codename for the new generation Pentium 4 processor core built on 90-nanometer technology and featuring advanced features such as larger caches sizes and new processor instruction.  Originally it is being released in the 478-pin CPU package and will eventually be released in a new LGA-775 socket format.

Overall this new processor core requires special system configuration considerations as designated on this page, specifically motherboard design, BIOS and voltage regulation requirements, plus chassis design, cooling, and power supply requirements.

Prescott Designations: You can tell a Prescott CPU because in the Model Code there will be an "E" at then end they will have 1MB of L2 cache and run at 800MHz FSB.  They should also be designated as being fabricated using 90nm (nanometer) technology process on 300mm wafers.  However some Prescott have an "A" at the end and run at 533FSB and do not support hyperthreading, but they still have 1MB cache.

Motherboard Support
One of the major requirements to support a Prescott core is a motherboard that meets FMB 1.5 (FMB = Flexible Motherboard) voltage regulation specifications.  Just because your chipset supports Prescott does not mean your mainboard will support it.  The motherboard must have the correct voltage regulation.  Secondly it must have an updated BIOS to recognize the processor.  The chart below details these requirements.

Chassis Support (CAG 1.1)
PC systems using the Intel Prescott Core processors are highly recommend to use only cases that meet the CAG 1.1 specification.  CAG 1.1 is a thermal design specification and is the second major revision of Intel's TAC (Thermally Advantaged Chassis) specification designed to make the cases cooler and quieter.

The In-Win below cases all have the required CAG 1.1 features (note only the newer models that end with "T" not those that end in "G").

Power Supplies
To support the Prescott and P4EE processors a power supply with minimum 15A current output on +12 volt line, however even more may be required depending on how heavily loaded the system is with extra hard drives, a lot of PCI cards, or high-end video cards.  We recommend 18A or higher.  You can check this specification on the power supply output spec sticker. Of course it is recommended that you use one of the certified cases above.
